Woodbury Dachshund Dash
As you maybe have read, Curly's first attempt at racing was not so good. Today he did awesome! He finished 3rd in his first race and 2nd in his second race. This was not good enough to qualify him for the finals, but we are so proud! Here are some pictures!

More new pals for Curly
Last night we went to Katie and Bill's and Curly got to play with Puddin (another weenie) and Teddy (a golden retriever). Curly loves big dogs and Teddy actually played with him because he is used to playing with a little dog. They ran around the back yard and inside the house. Taking pictures of the play time was a challenge as they move so fast by the time I clicked the picture - they had already moved somewhere else. It was very funny to watch Teddy try to chase Curly around the bushes! Curly was good and tired by the end of the night. He slept the whole ride home!

Wiener Dog Races!
Curly had his first racing experience in May at the American Legion in Savage. There was a $5 entry fee and the money went to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue - a worthy cause that saves wiener dogs from being euthanized in shelters by finding them foster homes and then adopts them out.
My mom and aunt went with me to help with the wrangling. You need 2 people - one to hold at the starting line and one at the finish line with treats.
Here is a group picture of all the competitors that day. 32 dogs were there to race!

This was Digger, the emcee of the event. He has wiener dogs and provided some great commentary throughout the afternoon.
Curly had several very successful practice runs. However, by the time his heat came up, he did not do so well. Look at the dog that is running towards the left instead of straight towards the finish line - that's Curly! (click on the picture to make it larger!) He finished last in his heat, but that's OK. We had a fun time anyways!

Curly's First Fishing Trip
May 2 and 3rd were the fishing opener in Wisconsin and Nick went to Marshfield to fish with his Dad and brother. Curly did not like the boat, but he did like the water. He went into it right along the shore and found some good smelling dead carp to roll in. Overall it was a good weekend for the boys. Here are some pictures:
Here is Curly running around at the cottage with the neighbor's dog Izzy. Curly liked hiding under the truck and poking his head out and licking the other dog.
Here's Jake giving Curly Mt. Dew. Not like he needs anything to make him more hyper!

Curly the Destroyer strikes again!
Curly the Destroyer
Don't let this cute exterior fool you. Behind this cute little wiener-dog face is a lean, mean, chewing machine.
Below are some examples of Curly the Destroyer's casualties.
Here are some toys, currently in the "hospital" due to various injuries.
Here are some reminants of toy stuffing and a card board box that the little dog got his teeth on.
Here is his food bowl, that he eats along with the food in it.

And here are what is left of my glasses. Curly got a hold of these this morning and chewed the plastic off of both ends. Needless to say I was NOT happy. Notice the completely exposed metal wire on the top of the picture. These glasses are not wearable or fixable.
The silver lining in all of this distruction is that I have 2 pairs of cute new glasses, thanks to a buy one get one free sale at Pearl Vision. My favorite is a cute pair of Anne Klein frames (apparently she designs everything). As my Dad so eloquently put it "now you have a spare pair when Curly goes back for seconds."
